PLACE GENNEVILLIERS-LALIBERTÉ FEATURED IN A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE!

Have you heard of Place Gennevilliers-Laliberté? It' s the public square located in front of the Maisonneuve Market. This iconic neighbourhood spot has charmed Hollywood and was incorporated in Kevin Hart's latest Netflix movie "Fatherhood"!

Here is a description of this public square, the role that the Excavation Super team played in its restoration, and a little more information about the movie.

DESCRIPTION

Overlooking Ontario Street East , Place Gennevilliers-Laliberté is well-known amongst Hochelaga-Maisonneuve residents. This majestic square, located in the heart of the neighbourhood, is a reminder of the area's bourgeois past.

The nearby public market is open year-round and houses a bakery, an organic grocery store and a cheese shop. In the center of the square stands an impressive fountain called "La Fermière", which was built in 1915 by the sculptor Alfred Laliberté.

EXCAVATION SUPER’S ROLE

Our team had the honour of renovating the Place Gennevilliers-Laliberté. Originally built in 1912, it was in need of a little facelift!

We restored the fountain and landscaping, and installed park equipment, grass, and prefabricated concrete pavers—all on a surface area of 6200 m2!

In addition, we planted 42 trees, providing shade for passers-by who sit on the benches. Our team is proud to have contributed to the revitalization of part of Montreal's heritage!

Fatherhood

Hollywood actor, Kevin Hart, is the star of the Netflix movie "Fatherhood" which was released last June. This movie tells the story of a father who raises his daughter alone after the sudden death of his mother.

The movie was partly shot in Montreal and includes a scene in which the characters eat ice cream in front of Alfred Laliberté's fountain. Thanks to the magic of special effects, the building behind the public square has been altered; however, if you’re one to pay attention to detail, you can reconize that it's Place Gennevilliers-Laliberté!

Quelle chance que de pouvoir voir un endroit bien de chez nous dans un film hollywoodien; nous avons de quoi être fiers en tant que Montréalais !

With the help of our team, Montreal is shining on the international scene with urban installations that don't go unnoticed, even in Hollywood.

If you haven't yet experienced this public square with its rich history, we suggest you go and eat an ice cream like Kevin Hart does in the movie!
